If you mind that the fish tank turns yellow, you must follow this procedure.
This piece looks incredible but even after boiling it my water is still practically red with tannins. Perfect for a brackish water look but not exactly for the flashy species I have in my tank.I am very pleased with the sizes and variety they sent me! The driftwood DID sink in less than a day of being soaked in the jar so that was cool. I have boiled it for over 5 hours on separate days and it has been soaking in the jar for 5 days and the water is still very discolored. But for the product I got and the price I paid, I don’t mind. Just be prepared for a longer sterilization/soaking process if you purchase this. I still haven’t put it in my tank to see how the pH will change but there are no fish or plants in it yet so it won’t hurt anything if it does. My pictures show the water as of this morning (after 5+ hours of boiling over 3 days & 5 days soaking in the jar) and the largest piece I received. I would buy from this company again. These came on time and looked great when I unpackaged them. To get ready for the aquarium they would be placed in, I soaked them (normal) in a bucket of filtered water to see how bad the color bleeding would be and possible tank impact. The bucket they are soaking in, this is the color of the water after just three hours.Hoping the bleeding slows dramatically over the remaining 45 hours I plan on.They two branches do not look dyed. Still …I’ll update as this progresses.I thought it would float like real driftwood but it doesn't float at all even a little bit. It just sits on the bottom of my tank and are useless. I bought this so my turtle could come out of the water if he wanted to but he can't now. It looks and feels good thought. Good quality just not what I thought i ordered. I didn't see anything in the description about it not floating. A little bummed to say the least. The photo shows three pieces next to a 1.5L bottle of mouthwash for scale. I'm happy with the shape and size of the pieces I received. They were packed securely. These are ones I would have chosen if I'd had a selection to choose from. Two of the three are heavy enough to stay submerged right out of the package. I'm soaking all three in a bucket of hot water to leach the majority of the tannins for a few days, but I like the color and benefits the tannins add to the aquarium for the fish. I've read numerous mentions on driftwood reviews of "paint or stain" that comes off the wood. The wood is completely untreated. The color that comes out of the wood is completely natural. Similar to steeping tea leaves. If you want a perfectly clear tank, buy some wood-look decor. This is real wood and has characteristics specific to a natural product.Update: after several days of soaking, I put the wood in my aquariums. One of them is great. The other two are releasing massive quantities of tannins. I boiled the two problematic pieces almost all day Saturday, changing the water multiple times to get out more tannins, but here it is Tuesday and the aquarium is so dark, it's hard to see the fish! I don't mind a bit of leaching, but it's been weeks and it's not getting better. I wish the type of wood was specified because I'd stay far away from it. I'm going to go buy some mopani or spider wood because at least then I know what I'm gettingThe product manufacturer doesn’t tell you that the wood is saturated with tannins which turns the water brown. I have changed the water over and over, well half of it as a full change isn’t healthy. I’ve had the wood for approximately one month and it’s still light brown. A refund would be great as this is very stressfulI love how the tank looked when I first put the pieces in and my fish loves his new place. The only issue is that, despite following boiling instructions, the tank water is still red a month later. I read that this could happen but would only last 2 weeks max so I’m not sure how to make my water clear again like it did immediately after I put the wood in.
