Got it for my shrimp tank. It works great for sucking out water, but it is not good for a vacuum. it sucks up too good for that. So, dont buy it thinking its a vacuum and you’ll be happy. It worked very well for the first few times. But once the hose gets clogged up with debris and small piece of gravels and you need to take the joint parts apart to clear the hose/ball and after then the water tends to leak from squeeze ball joints no matter how much you tighten the joints. I even put the plumber's tape around the joints, but it seems to be too much work for each water change & the water still leaked. It still works although not very efficiently. I have to squeeze the hose in clean water first to fill up the entire hose with water for the gravity to work, but since the joints are allowing air pockets to enter each time the ball is squeezed the suction gets reduced quickly. It even sucks the dirty water back to tank each time the ball is squeezed. You can see the debris travel back & forth inside the hose. Making sure there is NO small piece of gravels or debris remaining inside the hose/ball by running water through & shaking the narrow hose each time is rather annoying, but it won't work at all if I don't do the clearing process after each water change. But even after the hose/ball are cleared, the suction is not there any more once the joints are taken apart to clear the debris.Great and cute!Update: so this thing works great unless you move your tank on the highest part of the bookshelf. It is impossible to do water changes with this on same level with the bucket.I’d only recommend this if your tank is on a desk and will forever stay at desk level. It works well. Starts easily. Doesn’t get clogged often. Only problem is it leaks around the bulb. I’ve tried gorilla tape and I’m going to try some caulking. As long as you keep it over the container it’s not a big deal. Not a fan of it dripping all over the floor though. All of them may not leak. Unfortunately mine does.Bought this as a gravel vacuum for an aquarium but getting anywhere near a piece of gravel immediately clogs this thing up. It siphons water just fine, the starter bulb is an aspect I really love, but when it comes to cleaning it's way too tiny and the extender bit is completely and permanently clogged on mine with unremovable gravel. The upside is, it would be absolutely perfect for decanting homebrew beer, cider, or wine. Nothing in that to clog it, the starter bulb would eliminate issues with starting a siphon that I always run into with my homebrew siphon, the narrow probe would fit easily in the neck of any carboy, and the clip would keep it in place while I handled bottles. I badly want to buy a proper gravel vacuum and repurpose this but I'm not sure there's any way to totally and completely sterilize the inside of it after using it in an aquarium lol. So for now, I'll just continue to use it essentially as a watering hose between my water change bucket and my potted plants-- if you grow non-aquatic plants and haven't tried this trick you're missing out on a lot of free high quality organic fertilizer! With how well my plants grow from this habit, I could basically sell the used water to local plant enthusiasts if I wasn't already using it all up myself.I love the idea and the size of tubing that it comes with. However there’s a good flaw in the design going from the clear plastic tube to the 90* plastic piece. It does not take much of anything and it clogs it. I have basically taken mine apart completely and use the tube alone no filter piece and no 90 just because it all gets clogged and stops flow. Would heavily recommend just trashing the 90 and changing it to a flex piece or something to allow full flow.Easy to start suction, cleans bottom of my aquarium quickly.Definitely recommend.Super easy to get between the liverock in my 5g Pico with this, definitely recommend, works great. The bucket clamp is kinda scary but it never came off.Suction power is ideal for my smol tanks, it seems to work at the right speed for them.I got the green ball version if that helps. If you have a nano or pico, this is perfect.
